Irish Tiger
Nike Air Jordan 1 Low “G”
Design brief was to come up with a shoe for someone whose golf buddies had christened him “the Irish Tiger” (as in Woods).
Enter the Jordan 1 Low G (as in Golf).
You can see each time green or orange is laid down, the stripes still barely peek through.
The tiger stripes were each hand-painted 9 times, to ensure I could see them under various color coats, and then on top of the color coats to make sure they popped.
I briefly toyed with the idea of simply doing the orange and green first, and then stripes, but any mistake I made with a stripe I’d then have to strip the base paint away, and either start over, or risk a patchy finish.
This many layers of thin paint will also significantly reduce the chance of cracking with wear.
I shouldn’t love this box so much but I really really do. I just cut out a tiger stripe stencil I whipped up, put some pearlescent green in the airbrush, and Robert’s yer dad’s brotha.
I used a pearlescent green that gives a lovely shimmer in the daylight.
Because these are going to be used for golf, I made sure I applied several layers of high-gloss topcoat, that is both water resistant and UV-Resistant, to help prevent fading.
