Air Force 1 “Sage Low” White

The Client asked for “something Star-Warsy” for her well-loved Air Force 1s.

I happened to know she had been thinking about a lego R2-D2 set for a while, so I thought I’d strike while the iron is hot with a simple white, silver and blue colorway with some unique but small embellishments.

I knew early on that I’d want brown laces for the little hoses on R2s feet, but I wasn’t sure how or where to put the blue line on the midsole. I just knew I wanted it.

So I ended up just painting the AIR and the intersecting line around the heel for a little bit of midsole detail.

When I first got the assignment I knew I was working with AF1s, but did not realize until I had them, that they are a variant.

The “Sage Low,” has a quarter panel that runs right into the outer toe-box, and there isn’t a stitched lace panel for easy color blocking. The midsole is also extra chunky. These are sweet kicks - But I did have to throw out all my designs and start over.

For some extra detail I found this lovely little R2-D2 charm. I used metal toggles for the laces for just a little more metal to peek out and shine.

To rescue the yellowed midsole I applied just a single coat of this magic-in-a-bottle. I wish I had known what a difference it would make, I would have taken before and after pics.

I usually try and do something fun for the box if possible.

With these shoes being well worn and loved, I had to rummage through my own stash of boxes, but it gave me the opportunity to quickly do a custom label, something that I think will end up being a mainstay for future projects.
